Why I love what I do!

Dreamscometrue

A little bit about me and my fat-loss journey.

I wanted to take a break from posting facts today and share with you something about me. Yes it’s personal, and yes it’s scary to post on the Internet – but here I am – trying something that I fear :-)!

I had a baby girl in September of 2012. I gained weight, like women do during pregnancy, but the truth is I gained more weight (fat) after having her.

Yes, I was eating emotionally – and yes I was not focused on myself. I was focused on her. I was caught up in a storm of emotion, stress and uncertainty. She was born with two heart defects and spent a month in the hospital before coming home. It was one of the most trying times of my life – and I have been through many. The doctors were uncertain about her livelihood for the longest time. It’s a miracle that she is alive, well and happy today.

During this period, I gained over 25 kilos (55 lbs) and and when I looked into the mirror, I was confused at what had happend to my body. It wasn’t me anymore. I had changed – inside and out. It was a confusing time.

Then one day I finally decided to take control and take my health back. In taking my health back, I started the inner transformation that reflected in the outer world.

At first I started eating clean and lost a few pounds and stalled. Then I started eating Paleo. No change. Then I started counting calories and the weight began to come off. After I started counting calories, I started to increase my protein intake in relation to my carbs and fats. I began to lose more weight and this time it was mostly fat. Shortly there after, I hired a nutritionist and even more fat began to drop off as I added weight training to my routine. Her support was amazing and it changed my life. I was so inspired by how she helped me that I immediately began to study for my certifiation in fitness nutrition. I wanted to help others as I had been helped. And to this day, this brings me the greatest joy.

I found my dream – and took the steps to make it happen. You can too.

To be honest, working with a nutritionist is not just about losing fat and becoming a fitter & healthier version of yourself. It’s about changing your life. It’s a journey She helped change my life and I continue in her steps as I help to change the lives of others in a healthy, sustainable and postive way.

Taking my transformation to the next level!

Beauty

“Beauty awakens the soul to act.” – Dante Algheri

After I started taking care of my body – eating right and exercising, my confidence began to sky rocket. I started to feel more like myself again and more capable in this world. I was no longer just a mom – bound to my home to cook, clean and run errands…I was also doing something for me and I never felt better.

Until yesterday!

It keeps getting better. This journey is amazing.

To be completely honest with you, prior to this makeover – I had the attitude of  “What’s the point of wearing make-up? I am a single mom, I am busy, I workout, I already feel good about myself – blah blah blah.” Excuses. Plain excuses. We all make them.

We also have the power to over come them :-)!

I was set in my comfort zone in the beauty realm and finally dug deep for the courage to change that. It was so much easier than I thought!

I went to our team member, Angel Goa, for a makeover. Here is a “before” and “after” photo. I purposefully put a large image in so you can see the difference and how natural everything looks afterwards. No filter and in bright daylight!

Before and after

This first photo was taken after Angel cleansed my face. After this she applied a mask and the results were amazing! It was like I was glowing! Then we went into the make-over. She applied natural make up on my face and taught me how to do this. I am – or let me rephrase – I was absolutely CLUELESS about the make up process.

Angel is amazing! Not only is she exceptionally capable of giving you the look you are seeking – she is an excellent teacher. She  empowers you with the tips, tricks and tools for you to do this at home – every day. After some practice for a complete newbie like me, I can see that this can be done in ten minutes or less. It’s so nice to be able to know how to change your look too! From more natural to let’s go and get sexy! This is so much fun!

Being around Angel is a gift in itself. Her presence and angelic attitude is life changing in itself.

The way I felt afterwards was beyond words. I had an extra pep to my step! My spirit and soul were soaring and dancing! This was the wake up call that I needed – to realize that I was in denial that I wanted to enhance my beauty. And there is nothing wrong with wanting to be beautiful – and taking the steps to do something about it.

It’s called self-love and self-care – and it’s the most empowering feeling ever.

With much love & gratitude,

Ginger

PS. Because I don’t have much make-up at home (goes to show how little I have been working on this aspect of myself) – I picked up some goodies at Angel’s! It’s so fun to have new goodies to play with. If you have your own make up and tools, she can teach you how to use them to enhance your beauty.

Goodies

Breakdown before the breakthrough.

Breakdown

It never fails.

We all go through times where we think that we can no longer take it anymore.

Things just spin out of control, we are frustrated beyond belief and we just want to throw in the towel.

Hang in there. There is always an opportunity in the breakdown. You just have to step back, take a few deep breaths, and see what it is. I know that this is so much easier said than done :-).

This is when you know that you are close…close to the breakthrough.

Life will never impose something on you that you are not ready to handle.

This is true with fat-loss, fitness and any other endeavor in life.

When you have a dream – a goal – and you go after it with gutso, there will be trolls that come to test you – to tempt you off your path – into the realms of despair – if you allow them to.

Just hang in there, keep your chin up – and keep going. This is not the time to give up.

With love,

Ginger

Change for you and no body else.

Gandhi

“All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.” – Anatole France

Ginger 4

When it comes down to it, most people are fearful of change. It’s always perplexed me yet I completely understand. There is a lot of comfort in being content. Is being content the same as being happy?

I have been going through the process of  transformation for a while now and I can say in absolute faith that it is the best thing I could do to LOVE MYSELF and improve the quality of my life. When it comes down to it, you gotta take care of your self and love yourself. Otherwise, what good are you to anyone else – especially your most loved ones?

I fought with this concept and still do sometimes. Yet, if I am completely honest with myself – the more I love myself – and care for myself, the more my loved ones are benefitting. The more courageous I become, the less fearful I become and the more love can fill my life. It’s all connected

The point of this message is that it starts with You. No one is going to be able to make you happy. You have to make yourself happy and everyone and the things around you can add to your happiness. They do not have the power to give you the TRUE happiness you seek and deserve.

For me the change began when I decided to and took the steps to lose my pregnancy weight. That was just the beginning. So many things followed and now over a year later – the layers are still falling off and the truth of who I am is coming to the surface. And it’s beautiful.

The journey is not fat loss for everyone. It may involve eliminating or healing the unhealthy relationships in your life, getting involved in a new hobby, moving to another country, making new friends or even taking a spontaneous, unplanned vacation. This list is endless!

The thing is, when you take that first step to change for Yourself, the universe will conspire with you and for you to help make it happen.

Then the journey begins. There will be bumps along the way – and these are opportunities for you to face yourself, embrace yourself, and examine why things are the way they are. Once the lesson is learned and/or cleared, new and often wonderful things follow. I don’t know what your journey is going to be like. That’s part of what this life is about. It’s a journey.

Enjoy it. It’s not a race to the finish line.

Love yourself and care for yourself to the point where you are so strong that nothing that happens in the external world can affect you.

It’s a gift.

Love,

Ginger

PS. On a side note, sometimes change will choose you. If it does, remember – it’s all for the good in the long run.

Stay true to yourself! And Much LOVE!

Take your life back!

steve

This is just something I have been wanting to get off my chest for a long time.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Dont be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intutition, they already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs, 2005

It’s taken me years to realize the truth of this statement, although I have been seeing snippets for a while.

If I look back in reflection, I see how many of my actions, behaviours and even beliefs were not that of my own. They were the result of dogma (others’ opinions).

Over a year ago I decided to take my power back and it’s been the most revealing and empowering journey and it continues to amplify each day. It started with small steps and those steps got bigger and bigger as my courage grew. And now, I am beginning to see that I am living the life of my dreams because I took action to make it happen. The most amazing thing is the journey has just started.

The reason I wanted to share this with you is that if you feel trapped, locked or just plain unhappy – you DO have the power to step up to the plate and make the changes you want in your life. Your GUT knows what needs to change.

It’s may take time, it’s going to take commitment, it’s going to take follow through. It’s gonna be painful at times because you are going to have to face yourself. You will make mistakes. It’s okay. It’s all part of the journey.

But what happens as you take your power back, the layers of the bullshit will fall away and you will begin to feel free. You will begin to see who you really are and have always been.

Dream big and make it happen.

Love you all!

Why is the fat not coming off?

Insanity

One of the most common questions I get is – why am I not losing fat? “I am exercising /fill in the blank/ and doing /fill in the blank/ six days a week doesn’t seem to be working! Help!”

What’s the /fill in the blank/? Typically it’s a lot of cardiovascular exercise and an untargeted and inconsistent routine in the gym. It varies but I think you get the drift. Then I ask them about what they eat and their eating habits. This is where the truth comes out.

The problem?

The current model that many people follow to lose weight is ineffective : they do lots of cardiovascular exercise and do not see results. And they wonder why. I used to be one of these people.

Starting at a pretty young age, I chose to exercise partly because I wanted to lose weight and reshape my body. I LOVED exercise too – it really made me feel good and alleviated stress. However, no matter how much I exercised (whether I was running 20 miles per week or riding my bike 20 hours per week) my body looked the same. I did notice more muscle but it was not the look I was going after. I was looking to get leaner and tighter.

“Insanity : doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results!” – Albert Einstein

Okay, so according to a very wise man – I was insane ;-)!

THEN A BIG SHIFT HAPPENED!

About five years ago, I started working with a nutritionist for the first time and that changed my life. It changed everything. I started to lose fat and maintain lean muscle. The number on the scale started to drop and it eventually started falling off so fast that I couldn’t “keep up” :-)! And ya, I started to lift weights too!

The lesson I learned, and that many chronic over exercisers need to learn, is that nutrition is by far the most important factor when it comes to weight loss and body recomposition.

You can exercise for days upon days but if your nutrition isn’t right – your scale is not going to change much. However, your body composition could improve (for example you could be losing some fat and gaining some muscle).

Exercise is very important to a healthy body and well-being, but if you are trying to reduce those inches it is vital that you manage your diet too. Research has shown (1) that exercise on its own is not likely to lead to significant weight loss.

Proper diet combined with exercise is the key to success if you are trying to lose weight.

Are you ready to stop the insanity and do something to change your life?

Then it’s time to do something different. Your life will improve in so many ways you can’t even begin to imagine.

The secret? Eat clean foods and eat less food than you expend in energy! More on this in a later post!

It may not be easy – in fact it may be damn hard. It’s a journey.

But if you stick with it – day in and day out….you will see results.

:-)
